A Note on Respect
Australian creators struggle to make a living, especially ones like me who are guided by the moral principle of truth-telling rather than, say, commercial success under the current economic model. When I began my journey there were no pathways signed ‘writing career’ and only faltering beacons of encouragement. With others of my generation, and those before me, I helped erect signs for those coming after me, and stoked the lighthouses. One woman, born under the Tropic of Capricorn, who travelled here and there, learnt this or that, listened carefully, looked carefully, raised a couple of men, erected signs and stoked lighthouses, survived the disasters life presented, and spoke in her own voice. Support me, as I support the country I was born into, the earth on whose skin I walk. Respect.
